Sam Shoemaker's colleagues and children, A.A. old-timers, bookstores, and libraries. This is a bibliography without which no historian can purport to say he or she has studied the origins of A.A. The materials are new, fresh, comprehensive, revealing, and highly useful for research and publication. The names of the major contributors to Dick B.'s collection are given, along with the books and materials obtained from them. From Oxford Group leaders like George Vondermuhll, Jr.; Rev. T. Willard Hunter; the offices of Moral Re-Armament; the archives of the Oxford Group in Great Britain; the libraries of early Oxford Group activists James Newton, Eleanor Forde, James Houck; the collections of Sue Smith Windows and Robert Smith Jr. and of the children of Henrietta Seiberling and T. Henry Williams; the Episcopal Church Archives in Texas; the archives at A.A. General Services, at Akron Intergroup, at Dr. Bob's Home, at The Wilson House, at Stepping Stones; Princeton University; Hartford Seminary; Calvary Church in New York and in Pittsburgh; and from countless A.A. old-timers such as the widow of Clarence Snyder, Dennis Cassidy, Clancy Uterhardt, Geraldine Delaney,and Berry W. Dick B. is an active, recovered A.A. who has sponsored more than 100 men in recovery. He has traveled all over the United States to bring A.A.'s historical materials into one collection and then, after their reporting and analysis, to see that they were donated to such open, accessible, and free repositories as The Wilson House, Calvary Church in Pittsburgh, St. Paul's Church in Akron, and a yet-to-be selected repository for the 7 box Co-Founders Collection. The author is a Christian, Bible student, writer, historian, retired attorney, and scholar of note.

A Treasured Bibliography of all significant Books pertaining to A.A. spiritual principles and practices

Being an annotated bibliography, this book's value lies primarily in the immensity and quality of titles it covers. I don't think there is a collection, a library, or a bibliography on the sources, roots, principles, and practices of A.A. and 12 Step programs that comes close to completeness as the reader will quickly see. The author includes the hundreds and hundreds of books he has researched, read, collected, and disseminated to history lovers, religious leaders, leaders in medicine and psychology, and countless AAs and their families. You see where Dick obtained the books. You see biographies of the leading people from whom he received a good many of the books. You see the 17 years of effort he has put into the search for all the many components of the A.A. program. This book will help you in your program, in your speaking, in your facilitating and counseling, in research and reference quests, and as a reliable compilation of sources by A.A.'s leading history and scholar on its history.
