About the Author
David Jenkins was educated at Merton College, Oxford and the London School of Economics. After an initial spell in public relations he moved into industry, working as a manager in project, manufacturing and marketing roles in aerospace and polymer processing. He then spent several years as head of management studies at South West London college. In 1986, having worked as an advisor to a multinational manufacturer of elevators and a Swedish car maker, he set up TEK Associates, a small consultancy to assist organizations in finding better ways of improving and measuring their performance. Measuring Performance is his fourth book.

However, this collection of documents rests upon the previously existing collection of documents which comprise the Hebrew Canon, referred to by Christians as the Old Testament, and therefore is itself acutely vulnerable to any assault made upon the Hebrew Canon, or Old Testament. The very foundation of the Hebrew Canon, in terms of the claimed sequence of writing, historical events narrated, and theological importance, is the Torah, or Pentateuch, or Five-Books-Of-Moses; namely, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. It is not surprising then, that while there is continuing debate about the so-called Synoptic Problem, the authorship and placement of the Pastoral Epistles, the provenance of the Book of Daniel, the authorship of the Book of Isaiah, and many of the Psalms, it is the Pentateuch that has been the target of the most unremitting assaults of sceptics and Critics down the years, and the Book of Genesis has suffered the most brutal of these attacks. It is these assaults upon the Pentateuch that form the subject of this book. This book was thoroughly researched and well written. That Mr. Phalan had to go to a small independent publisher is evidence of the academic that plagues our current world! Mr. Phelan documented his sources as every scholarly work should. I plan on buying multiple copies to give to friends and colleagues.

A Great Defense of the Origin and Inspiration of the Torah

This book takes on the higher critics, demolishing their case that the origins of the first five books of the Bible are late in Israel's history. He takes on each viewpoint of the Pentateuch's origin, and shows why the only possible true option is the one believed traditionally by the Jews. He shows how the Pentatuach developed, based on the information in the books themselves, and based on the patterns and customs in ancient writing. His section on patterns in the Bible is interesting, although the "Bible Codes" section is a little difficult to swallow (probably because of the hype surrounding Bible Codes, rather than what the author actually says).

His insistence that we read the Bible to know God, rather than to know ourselves (or our purpose) is refreshing, in a world bound up in either intellectual reading of the Bible to tear it down, or emotional reading of the Bible to build ourselves up.

Relying on heavy dialogue, Petievich glosses over many details in an effort to keep the action hopping. Although the book's one plot thread is compelling, the story would have benefited from greater dimension.

Story of the Secret Service..

Russell Jordan's second presidential term will soon be coming to an end. Yet there is reason to believe a serious attempt on his life is in the works. Secret Service agent Pete Garrison, working almost singlehandedly, has limited time to foil the plot. A task made all the more difficult in that he is suspect number one in this nefarious crime.
The Sentinel by Gerald Petievich is a fast paced, action packed thriller that holds the reader's interest from beginning to end. An exciting read that does not disappoint. Highly recommended to fans of Washington based thrillers.

decent spy novel

I've seen the Michael Douglas movie a few times and thought I'd check out the book. It is very different from the movie, which made it seem like I had never heard the story. It started very slow and didn't feel it hit its stride until half-way. Despite that, the second half of the book was read in short order. Couldn't put it down.

The ending was abrupt versus the motion picture, but more realistic. I may consider more Petievich novels.

Fans of To Live and Die in L.A will be anxious to read Gerald Petievich's latest book. A great read, this book features a tightly woven plot centered in Washington,DC as a Secret Service agent fights against time to protect the President. Petievich kept leading me down paths before revealing that I'd made false assumptions. I read this book in one sitting -- that's how good it is.
