About the Author
Timothy J. Mullin is a former infantry officer in the US Army and deputy US marshall. He is a lifelong gun lover and fervent defender of the Second Amendment. His well-regarded series on combat weapons also includes volumes on handguns and rifles. He currently practices law in St. Louis, Missouri.

Title is WRONG: some guns in here, the author fired & declared "unsatisfactory" so that you don't have to waste your time!

OK. here it is, an honest review, not some shill for the publisher. Tim Mullin is a respected firearms authority, and I own some of his earlier works [_Testing the War Weapons_, _100 Combat Pistols_, etc.] This appears to be a compendium of those earlier works, with the publisher focusing on glitz over content: the unfortunate editorial decision to fit every firearm on a single page, with a brief paragraph or two beneath each illustration, means that there isn't enough space to illustrate what makes some of the firearms unique [& therefore worthy of inclusion] nor text to explain in detail what makes the firearm significant. There are some minor flaws [spelling errors "Rast und Gasser" is rendered as "Rast und Gasse," for example] and other oddities, like the icon legend listing submachine guns as "small machine guns" and automatic rifles/SAWs as "large machine guns" while GPMGs [larger & heavier than the "large machine guns" of the icon legend] are rendered as "medium machine guns." So I suspect that Tim didn't have as much input into this book as he might have preferred & instead it was cobbled together from his previous works by some underpaid intern at the publisher's, with little to no interest in, or familiarity with, firearms.
If you can't track down any copies of Tim Mullin's earlier [& now OOP] works, then this is a somewhat interesting light overview of his range of output, but is absolutely not up to his usual standard of authorship. Personally, I'm so turned off by the preview that I'm not going to buy it [unless/until it gets remaindered, & then it will depend on whether or not I've got someone to give it to who would appreciate the information but doesn't already have a deeper knowledge of firearms than the book offers.] Thank goodness Amazon has the "look inside" feature! I've been a customer now for almost 20 years, and every day I'm more pleased with them. :-)
It has just occurred to me that the title and format are a giveaway that this was originally intended to be produced as one of those "Day by Day" desk calendars where you tear off a page at a time from a thick pad, and each day has a bit of related content. That would explain a lot, except for why this was released as a [disappointing] book. Maybe because they forgot 2016 is a leap year w/ 366 days? Who knows...

Hands-On Experience Makes Book A Winner

This is as thorough a review of classic and contemporary firearms imaginable for the size and scope of the book. The author is extremely knowledgeable, and what really stands out is the fact he's actually fired every weapon in the book--he's not merely writing proxy reviews based on what others have read and accomplished. There's a little geopolitical history thrown in as well, as the book is organized alphabetically by country. A must-have for any serious firearm collector.

A must have reference guide.

For any firearm enthusiast, this is a must have book for new information or reference. Short concise information and very good color photographs. The only problem is that I am a collector and this book is making me find more firearms to add to my want list. Be careful what you wish for, it gets expensive.
