Decent book

The first chapter provides some good insight into project communications. Some of it you may have heard before but the first chapter is well written. Following chapters are descriptions of the various communication documents that could be used in a project. The author discusses the purpose, applications and content of each. They provide a useful reference to someone integrating documents into a communications plan. They focus mostly on the application of the documents themselves and not so much project communication as a whole. The CD that comes with the book is disappointing. The example documents were hastily prepare and poorly formatted.

EXCELLENT PROJECT MANAGEMENT RESOURCE!!

Do you need to improve project management communications? If you do, then this book is for you. Author Carl Pritchard, has done an outstanding job of writing a second edition of a book that enhances communications.

Author Pritchard, begins by showing you how the goal of communication in the project environment must be to establish a common understanding to the requisite level of depth. Next, the author discusses how information storage and transfer media can be found in computer-based technologies; as well as, in conventional audio and video technology. Then, he recommends advising other parties of the communication tools in the initiating processes, that they will be responsible for in certain types of communication that are essential from the very outset. In addition, the author examines many of the tools that are specific components of the project plan, which is the larger, overreaching document that serves as a repository for a host of subplans. He continues, by showing you how in executing or implementing projects, organizations have the opportunity to capture insight and information as it is developing. Next, the author discusses how many of the outputs from controlling process activities are reports that are used to provide the project team and stakeholders and other interested parties information on the project's, status, budget, issues, actions, and so forth. Finally, the author explores the closing processes, where the communications tools generally focus on ensuring a historic record of what the project accomplished and how it accomplished it.

The technologies to support the tools in this excellent book are legion and expanding. Also, this great book examines the project management-specific tools and templates that drive effective communication.
